Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that a court order has been received, restricting protests, rallies, processions, and meetings to Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park on Ikorodu Road and Peace Park in Ketu. These restrictions apply from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily between August 1 and 10, 2024. The police will enforce this order strictly.
The Police emphasized that all participants must maintain law and order, and the force is committed to facilitating peaceful protests while preventing any violence or disruption.
The statement from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, assured Lagosians of the measures in place to safeguard lives and property, ensure traffic flow, and maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the protest. CP Fayoade highlighted concerns that the protests could disrupt commercial activities and traffic, underscoring the command’s commitment to upholding the rights of individuals while managing the protests effectively.
The statement also urged participants to be vigilant, report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, or contact the command’s control room at 0806 515 4338 and 0806 329 9264.
CP Fayoade reassured the public that adequate security resources have been deployed to ensure safety and security, encouraging Lagosians to conduct their activities without fear of harassment or intimidation.
