Addressing stakeholders at a Government House meeting on Wednesday, Yusuf criticized the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly disregarding state government directives. He expressed confusion over the police’s failure to follow orders, questioning their claims of receiving instructions from a higher authority.
“I don’t understand why security agencies, especially the police, ignore our directives,” Yusuf stated. “When we issue orders, they respond with claims of receiving orders from ‘above.’ Who exactly is this ‘above’? I am the chief security officer of the state. If there’s an issue with that, then amend the Nigerian constitution,” he added.
As the protest approaches, 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on the government to address the economic hardships faced by citizens effectively. “We need to implement proper measures to support those in need and ensure aid reaches them,” the Emir emphasized during the meeting.
The impending protest has generated considerable debate, with some viewing it as a necessary action to tackle economic issues, while others advocate for dialogue to avoid disruptions and maintain public order.
