Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday that all protesters detained on Thursday were released the same day. He noted that Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, had instructed the State CID to release the detainees.
Protest leader Inibehe Effiong had initially reported that at least 12 protesters were arrested on Thursday but later confirmed that all had been freed.
Effiong praised the police and security personnel for their professional management of the protests.
On Friday, protesters regrouped in front of Park in Ojota for a second day. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police was present to oversee the protest and ensure security, even providing water and snacks for participants. The protesters briefly paused their demonstrations to observe Jumat prayers at the park.
