According to the Commissioner of Police, the CPG members have alleged that their commander, Col. Rabiu Yandoto, was involved in the killing. The CPG members claimed that Col. Yandoto had inquired whether Magaji Lawali had been arrested. Upon confirmation, Col. Yandoto reportedly arrived at the scene, took the keys to the cell where Magaji was held, and later emerged to announce that he had completed his task. Magaji’s lifeless body was discovered after Col. Yandoto left.

The Commissioner of Police stated that Col. Yandoto, the former State Commandant of the CPG, has been arrested and is under investigation. He assured that the case is not politically motivated but a criminal matter that will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

The Commissioner emphasized that the investigation will be comprehensive to ensure justice for Magaji Lawali.
