On Monday night, during an Episcopal meeting in Abuja, Ike and six other senior clergymen were elected as Bishops. The newly elected Bishops are: Ven. Ephraim Gongdem for Jos Diocese, Ven. Dr. John Obinali for Okigwe Diocese, Ven. Prof. Sam Ike for Enugu Diocese, Ven. Dr. Godwin Odubena for Ijebu North Diocese, Ven. Bernard Hanson for Ahoada Diocese, Ven. Titus Alkali for Wusasa Diocese, and Ven. Samuel O. Ifeyemi for Osun North Diocese.

This announcement was made in a statement by Korede Akintunde, CoN Communication Officer. He detailed that the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion held its Episcopal Synod on August 12, 2024, at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Maitama, Abuja.

The Synod, which followed a Holy Eucharistic Service, resulted in the election of several Bishops and Archbishops for various provinces. The elected Archbishops include: Rt. Rev’d Sosthenes Eze for Enugu Province, Most Rev’d Israel Afolabi Amao for Kwara Province, Rt. Rev’d Dr. Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe for Ibadan Province, and Most Rev’d Daniel Yisa for Lokoja Province.

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Dr. Henry Ndukuba, urged prayers and support for the newly elected Bishops and Archbishops as they prepare for their new roles. The consecration of the Bishops-elect and the presentation of the Archbishops-elect will take place on September 18, 2024, during the Standing Committee Meeting hosted by Nike Diocese in Enugu State.
