First Council Of State Meeting Under President Tinubu’s Leadership Takes Place

Attendees include all living former presidents and past heads of state. As of this report, former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari have been seen at the meeting, while Abdulsalami Abubakar and former Head of State Yakubu Gowon are participating virtually.

Key topics on the agenda include the aftermath of the #EndBadGovernance protests, which began on August 1 and ended prematurely despite initially being planned for a 10-day duration. In addition to discussing these protests, serving ministers from the Tinubu administration are set to make presentations to the Council, despite not being members. They have been specifically invited by the President for this purpose.

The Council of State includes the President (Chairman), Vice-President (Deputy Chairman), all former Presidents and Heads of State, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state Governors, and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.
