Benin City, Edo State — The All Progressives Congress (APC) New Media Directorate has sounded the alarm over a serious electoral violation allegedly involving a key agent of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The Directorate is urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene immediately.
The call for action comes after a post went viral online, showing a former Edo State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Madam Megom from Ovia, reportedly engaging in the illegal collection of voters’ cards. According to the APC New Media Directorate, Madam Megom was caught offering cash in exchange for these cards, a serious breach of electoral law. The incident was captured in a photograph that shows her wearing a facecap emblazoned with the name of the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
“This blatant act raises serious questions about the integrity of the electoral process,” said Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Director of the APC New Media Directorate. “When did PDP agents become de facto staff of INEC? We demand that INEC immediately retrieve the illegally obtained voters’ cards and initiate legal action against Madam Megom. Such electoral malpractice cannot go unpunished.”
The Directorate also called on the IGP to arrest Madam Megom and ensure she faces justice, warning that her actions threaten to undermine the credibility of the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State.
Furthermore, the APC urged the citizens of Edo State to remain vigilant and recognize what they describe as the PDP’s desperate attempts to cling to power through fraudulent means. “The PDP, under Governor Obaseki’s failed leadership, has not delivered on its promises. Now, they resort to electoral fraud in a bid to continue their misrule,” Omo-Ikirodah added. “The people of Edo State must reject Asue Ighodalo and the PDP’s corrupt tactics.”
The APC New Media Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election, calling on all Edo citizens to stand firm against any attempt to compromise the democratic process.
