The party stated that this action is necessary to restore its integrity and focus on effective leadership. In a statement released on Sunday in Lokoja, the party’s elders, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo, expressed their concerns. They noted that Melaye’s political influence has diminished significantly, to the point where he would struggle to secure even a local councilor position.

The statement read: “Senator Melaye has become a liability to the party. His recent accusations against the current leadership are particularly hypocritical, given that he was awarded the governorship ticket despite his inability to win even a primary election.”

The Kogi PDP attributed the party’s current difficulties to Melaye’s nomination, which they believe was a critical mistake that contributed to their present challenges. The party also called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reconsider their support for Melaye, describing him as a “burden” and a “significant liability” for the party.
