Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the new Director-General of the NIA, while Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi has been appointed as the new Director-General of the DSS.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, on Monday, August 26, 2024.

Ambassador Mohammed brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having joined the NIA in 1995 and serving in various capacities. His distinguished career in the foreign service saw him rise to the position of Director and subsequently head the Nigerian mission to Libya. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Ambassador Mohammed has also served in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja.

Mr. Adeola Ajayi, the newly appointed Director-General of the DSS, has similarly risen through the ranks to reach his former position as Assistant Director-General. Throughout his career, he has served as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.

These new appointments follow the resignation of the previous heads of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu has expressed confidence that the new security chiefs will work diligently to enhance the effectiveness of these intelligence agencies. He has charged them with leveraging their extensive experience to address the country’s security challenges through improved collaboration with other agencies and close coordination with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
