IPMAN Criticizes NNPCL For Selling Dangote Petrol At Higher Prices Than Imported Fuel
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for pricing petrol from the Dangote Refinery higher than imported fuel.
NNPCL began distributing petrol from the Dangote Refinery on Sunday, claiming it purchased the fuel at N898 per litre. However, Dangote Refinery has refuted this, calling the NNPCL’s statement “misleading and mischievous,” according to a spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina.
Prior to this, petrol sold at N855 per litre at NNPCL retail outlets in Lagos. On Monday, the price of Dangote petrol was announced to be N950 per litre in Lagos and N1,019 in Borno, drawing criticism from the public.
IPMAN National Welfare Officer John Kekeocha expressed confusion over the pricing, questioning the rationale behind selling Dangote petrol at higher rates compared to imported fuel. “If NNPC can sell Dangote products at a higher price than imported ones, it doesn’t make sense. What was the purpose of all the celebrations?” Kekeocha stated on Channels Television on September 16.
