The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two suspects and recovered a bag of gunpowder along with ammunition at different locations within the state. Ikenga reported, “The police apprehended two suspects and confiscated a substantial amount of gunpowder concealed in a bag of cassava flakes (garri), as well as a locally-made pistol and live ammunition.”
He detailed that on September 22, 2024, officers patrolling the Pillar-Pole area of Aguata stopped a suspect (name withheld) who was carrying three bags of garri. Upon inspection, the officers uncovered the gunpowder hidden beneath the food items.
“Initial investigations indicate that the suspect was heading to a criminal camp to deliver groceries and gunpowder intended for the production of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) for the gang,” he stated.
Ikenga added that the suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with the police to identify other gang members.
In a related incident, operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, acting on reliable intelligence, raided a criminal hideout in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, in the early hours of September 25. During this operation, one Nelson Wisdom, a native of Etsako East LGA in Edo State, was arrested, and a locally fabricated pistol along with two live rounds of ammunition were recovered.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Itam, reiterated the Command’s dedication to collaborating with other security agencies to act on credible intelligence. He emphasized their ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and thwart the plans of criminal elements in the state, assuring the public that all suspects would face charges in court following the completion of investigations.
