Ikiriko emphasized the importance of conducting an audit as a means to combat scams and corruption in the industry. He urged the government to actively engage with its citizens as a feedback mechanism and to reconsider its policy approaches. “One effective way to tackle scams and corruption in the industry is through an industry audit,” he stated. “While we cannot conduct this audit as an association, we will continue to advocate for it until the government listens to our voices and takes appropriate action with the right individuals in key positions.”

He further noted, “Once this audit is conducted, those currently perpetrating scams will be held accountable. It is crucial for government officials to listen to the citizens they govern; this is a vital feedback mechanism. Instead of viewing citizen input as a challenge, the government should see it as an opportunity for communication and re-evaluation of their policies.”

In his keynote address, political scientist and peace-building practitioner Ayokunle Fagbemi highlighted the complex nature of Nigeria’s energy crisis and the impact it has on citizens.
