Politician In Benue Evicted From Property Due To Wife’s Loan Agreement

Sources indicate that the house, located in the Sagwari Layout of Dutse, Bwari Area Council, was built by Obe. His wife, Christiana Obe, has been married to him since 2006, and the couple hails from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The eviction occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, while Obe was en route to Benue State. He received a call informing him that security operatives were invading his home and evicting him. Furious, he turned back along the Keffi road in Nasarawa State.

Upon returning, Obe was presented with a court document stating that his house had been confiscated due to an outstanding loan taken out by his wife. He expressed to DAILY POST that he had not received any prior court notice before the invasion.

At the scene, military personnel and police officers were present, with Obe’s belongings scattered across the street. He lamented, “She has done her worst. This is a house I built with my hard-earned money.”

In a Facebook live session, Obe alleged that his wife colluded with the officers to storm his property, questioning how a court could confiscate it without prior notice. He claimed he was unaware of any loan taken out by his wife and had not been contacted by the lenders.

Obe also revealed that his wife had taken their son to an undisclosed location before the eviction. He denied receiving any court papers ahead of the incident, stating, “I was never served. This was plotted by my wife and the officers who came. We have been having issues for a while, and I think this is her way of getting back at me.”

Reports indicate that Christiana, an officer in the Nigerian Air Force, had previously removed some belongings from the house, including air-conditioners, without incident, as Obe chose not to escalate the situation.

A family member, speaking anonymously, expressed disbelief over the situation, stating, “Ewaoche has invested so much in this woman, even helping her secure her current job. How could she conspire with others to bring him down after more than two decades together? This seems like oppression. How can a wife take a loan without informing her husband? Why didn’t the lender contact the property owner? This situation raises many questions.”

Concerns were also raised regarding the legitimacy of the court documents, with some alleging that the eviction was carried out illegally. The family has called for an investigation into the officers involved. When reached for comment, Christiana stated, “I am not under any obligation to speak to anyone.”
