3,500 NSCDC Officers Mobilized For FCT Independence Day Celebrations

In a statement issued on Monday by NSCDC FCT Command spokesperson Samuel Idoko, he announced, “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command has deployed a total of 3,500 personnel to provide security for Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary celebrations.”

To enhance security efforts, specialized units, including the Armed Squad, Special Crack Squad (Operation Adaka-su), Female Strike Force, Anti-Counter Terrorism Squad, and Agro Rangers, have also been mobilized. Personnel will be strategically positioned throughout the FCT, covering all Area Councils and the city center, to prevent any potential unrest.

Dr. Olusola Odumosu, the FCT NSCDC Commandant, stressed the importance of the Corps in ensuring a peaceful celebration. He pointed out the unique status of the FCT as the nation’s seat of power and a hub for diplomatic missions, highlighting the need for professionalism among NSCDC personnel.

“The government and residents of the FCT expect a lot from the Corps to ensure a peaceful celebration. The Command must safeguard public and private properties in the Federal Capital. Given that the FCT hosts diplomatic headquarters from around the world, the Corps must conduct their duties with high professionalism to prevent any infractions,” Odumosu stated.

He reiterated the necessity of adhering to the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures and emphasized the importance of maintaining 24-hour surveillance on critical national assets. Additionally, he called for cooperation among security agencies to ensure a smooth security operation throughout the festivities.
