Austin Tam-George, former Rivers State Commissioner for Information, has voiced his disappointment over the actions of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of orchestrating plans to destabilize Rivers State rather than focusing on his responsibilities in the FCT. Tam-George made these remarks during an appearance on The Morning Brief on Channels Television, expressing deep concern over Wike’s involvement in the state’s political unrest.
“I’m very disappointed in what the minister is doing. He’s the one orchestrating this. He’s the one who has set forth a process to destabilize the state,” Tam-George said, referencing the ongoing feud between Wike and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. The tension between the two politicians has escalated since Wike, now FCT Minister, fell out with his former ally. Tam-George emphasized that Wike should be focusing on his mandate in Abuja, particularly addressing the poor state of public schools in the FCT, which he noted as some of the worst in Nigeria.
“He has a clear administrative mandate in the FCT, which has one of the worst public school systems in the country,” Tam-George pointed out. “Instead of focusing on delivering services in the FCT, he’s more interested in destabilizing Rivers State. For God’s sake, let us allow Governor Fubara to do his work without interference,” he added, urging Wike to step back and allow the current administration in Rivers State to govern without disruption.
