Recent weeks have seen an increase in unrest stemming from the rift between Fubara and Wike, which has escalated tensions in the state. The situation worsened on Monday, coinciding with the inauguration of newly elected local government officials, when several local government secretariats were set on fire.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George expressed deep concern over the deteriorating conditions in the oil-rich state. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing peace and stability in resolving the conflict.

George also stressed the need for unity within the party, asserting that Governor Fubara, as the current PDP leader in Rivers State, requires the unwavering support of all party members to ensure the success of his administration. He stated, “Justice lies in recognizing who the leader of the party in the state is. It is not the minister; it is the governor. We must stand by him. The beauty of it is that he has clearly stated he isn’t leaving the party, and then the elections took place.”

He mentioned that he and other members of the PDP Board of Trustees have made attempts to mediate between Wike and Fubara. “I spoke with the chairman of the board of trustees and tried to arrange a visit to Fubara with a group of BOT members to hear his perspective. Afterward, I contacted Wike to request a meeting. He indicated that he would be available after his return from China,” George explained. “Unfortunately, while they have gone, I have not been able to meet, so I am unsure of the outcome.”

George affirmed that the party’s BOT has a crucial role in addressing such disputes within the party.
