This decisive action came after the hippo was responsible for the tragic deaths of the Yauri Emir’s guard and another farmer.

Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, the Chairman of Yauri Local Government Area, confirmed the fishermen’s actions were carried out under the directive of the Emir of Yauri. “If you recall, this hippo has claimed the lives of the Emir’s guard and another farmer just last month,” he stated. “We cannot allow a creature that kills people indiscriminately to roam free, especially when those it has attacked were merely going about their fishing business.”

After successfully hunting the hippo, the fishermen transported it on a large canoe to the palace of the District Head of Gungu, Alhaji Kasimu Aliyu, where they were met with applause from an assembled crowd. The brave fishermen then butchered the animal, sharing the meat among the locals, turning a tragic situation into a communal feast.
