In a statement released on Thursday, Uchechi highlighted a recent interaction with their son, emphasizing how Kanu’s absence is profoundly impacting his life and causing emotional distress. She remarked that the UK has long been recognized as a champion of human rights and fairness.

Uchechi urged the UK government to take immediate action to facilitate her husband’s release from Nigerian custody. She shared a poignant moment regarding her son’s homework, which involved writing about personal identity, noting, “My son’s last paragraph read, ‘No matter how much people think they know about our pain, nobody can feel the way I feel about the absence of my daddy in my life. Nor the exact pain it is causing us.’”

She continued, “The UK is the forebear of human rights, with a long-standing reputation for fairness and justice. They played a vital role in establishing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights after World War II. Unfortunately, recent governments have undermined this important legacy.
