For vehicle number plates, the new rates have jumped to N30,000 for both standard private and commercial vehicle plates. Fancy number plates will now cost a steep N400,000, while motorcycle plates are priced at N12,000. Dealer vehicle number plates will be issued for N100,000.

Government-issued number plates are not exempt from the hike, with fancy vehicle plates now costing N120,000 and standard plates set at N80,000. Motorcycle number plates for government vehicles will range from N20,000 for standard to N50,000 for fancy options.

The JTB emphasized that these adjustments are aimed at introducing enhanced security features for better identification of drivers and vehicles across the country.

Olusegun Adesokan, Secretary of the JTB, stressed the importance of public awareness about the new rates. In a circular obtained by BusinessDay, he said, “The secretariat has requested the FRSC [Federal Road Safety Corps] to outline its public engagement and sensitization plans.
