Suspended LG Chairman Appeals For Reinstatement, Urges State Government To Halt SuspensionJelili Sulaiman, the embattled Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Council, has notified the Lagos State Government that his suspension by the State Assembly is sub judice and should not be enforced.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued by his lawyer, Dr. Abdul Mahmud of Levite Solicitors and Arbitrators, Sulaiman urged the state government to respect due process and the judiciary. The statement, made available to journalists on Thursday in Abuja, highlighted that the issue is currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

“We wish to bring to public attention a letter issued by Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, dated October 8, 2024,” the statement read. The letter directed Mr. Akinpelu Johnson, Vice Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, to assume the role of Acting Chairman following the resolution of the Lagos State House of Assembly, which Sulaiman’s lawyer deemed unconstitutional.

The lawyer further noted that a subsequent letter instructed Johnson to await directives from the Lagos State Governor. He reminded the Permanent Secretary that Sulaiman’s suspension, and all related actions, are sub judice due to the pending case Jelili Sulaiman & Anor v. Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly & 5 Others.

He emphasized that any attempt to enforce the suspension would violate the rule of law and interfere with the ongoing judicial process, urging the Permanent Secretary to refrain from further action.
