Former APC Bayelsa Deputy Chair Dismisses Suspension Of Lokpobiri And Lyon As UnlawfulA former Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Ogeibiri Enkumor, has criticized the recent indefinite suspension of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, former gubernatorial candidate Chief David Lyon, and several others. Enkumor labeled the suspension, which was reportedly due to alleged anti-party activities in Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas, as legally unfounded.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Enkumor denounced the suspension as “null and void,” asserting that it stemmed from ignorance. He emphasized that there is currently no authority within the Bayelsa APC to impose suspensions, as the party lacks an active executive structure at both the state and ward levels.

Enkumor further reaffirmed that Lokpobiri is a dedicated and respected member of the APC, enjoying substantial support among party stakeholders. He noted that Lokpobiri’s strong leadership has garnered backing from prominent figures, including former Senator Degi Eremienyo and former House of Representatives member Israel Sunny-Goli. Enkumor insisted that these stakeholders remain united behind Lokpobiri’s leadership and urged that the suspension be dismissed as “a contempt of court.”

In his statement, he said, “I have been made aware of the announcement regarding the indefinite suspension of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Chief David Lyon, and several others for alleged anti-party activities in Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas. I want to categorically state that this purported suspension is entirely null and void and reflects sheer ignorance on the part of those responsible. The Bayelsa State chapter of the APC currently has no functioning executive from the state level down to the ward level.

“This situation arises from a valid court order issued on January 20, 2023, by Judge L. T. Cocodia of the Yenagoa High Court. This order annulled the congresses held on September 3rd and 4th, and October 16, 2021, and imposed a perpetual injunction against anyone from presenting themselves as party executives.

“To my knowledge, this order remains unchallenged by any superior court, leaving one to question the basis on which anyone would announce the indefinite suspension of key stakeholders and respected leaders. Therefore, the purported suspension constitutes contempt of court and should be completely disregarded, as one cannot place something on nothing.

“Senator Heineken Lokpobiri is not only a bona fide member of our party but also a highly respected leader. The same applies to Chief David Lyon and other chieftains listed in the suspension. The exceptional leadership demonstrated by Senator Lokpobiri is why all conscientious stakeholders within the party are firmly behind him. Notable figures like former Senator Degi Eremienyo and former House of Representatives member Israel Sunny-Goli have expressed unwavering support for his leadership.
