Aliyu pointed out that the president’s directive for the Minister of Defence and military leaders to relocate to Sokoto is a strong indication of the government’s determination to combat banditry and crime not only in Sokoto but across the entire North-West region. This statement was made during an event on Friday where Aliyu provided support to the Nigerian military to bolster their capacity to fight banditry in Sokoto State.

The governor donated ten vehicles to the army, stating, “When I met with Mr. President, we had extensive discussions about the security challenges in our state, and he assured me of his support in addressing these issues. Mr. President has fulfilled his promise by sending the Honourable Minister and service chiefs, and Alhamdulillah, we are beginning to see results. We are deeply grateful to Mr. President.”

Aliyu also mentioned that the ten patrol vehicles are in addition to the 100 vehicles previously allocated to security agencies for combating banditry in the state. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting security agencies, stressing the importance of collaboration to ensure the safety of citizens. The governor pledged to allocate state resources to protect the lives and properties of the people, stating, “Security is the top priority in my nine-point agenda; we will do whatever it takes within the law to protect our people.”

Furthermore, the governor praised the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mutawalle, for his commitment to improving security in the North-West. He acknowledged the minister’s efforts in overcoming previously dangerous areas that residents had abandoned.

In his remarks during the event, Minister Mutawalle commended the people of Sokoto State for having a dedicated governor. He noted that the presidential directive for him and the service chiefs to relocate to Sokoto was a response to the persistent pressure Aliyu placed on President Tinubu to address the state’s security concerns. “Because of your seriousness in tackling these challenges, Mr. President has approved the purchase of CMG vehicles that will be stationed in Sokoto under a new operation, ‘FANSAR YAMMA,’ aimed at securing the North-West,” he revealed.

Mutawalle assured his commitment to achieving lasting peace in Sokoto and praised Aliyu’s dedication to making the state crime-free. “The people of Sokoto are fortunate to have Ahmed Aliyu as their leader because he genuinely cares for the state,” he said. He also promised that the vehicles provided would be used effectively to eliminate banditry from Sokoto State.
