Peter Obi Explains Why Nurses Should Be Allowed To EmigrateThe 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has stated that nurses and other professionals seeking opportunities abroad should not be hindered. He believes their migration can be advantageous for Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obi made these remarks during a visit to St. Charles Borromeo College of Nursing and Midwifery in Onitsha on Monday, where he donated funds to the institution. He emphasized that foreign remittances could serve as a valuable source of revenue for the country.

Highlighting the importance of education and health, the former Anambra governor remarked that these are the currencies of the future. With Nigeria’s population exceeding 200 million, he argued against restricting people from pursuing opportunities outside the country.

Obi urged Nigerian leaders to focus on training more individuals, stating, “What we are doing is not charity; we are investing in you. Investing in knowledge and health is vital for the future. Your profession is in demand globally.”

He added, “I told the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria that they should not prevent anyone from leaving for greener pastures. We should educate our people and allow those who wish to go abroad to do so. Diaspora remittance is also a form of revenue generation.”

Expressing his commitment to improving educational opportunities, Obi said, “If you see me donating, it’s to make life better for you. My children won’t attend this university, but I choose to invest in your future instead of seeking personal accolades. I will also support the college of nursing in Anyingba tomorrow to help them gain accreditation.
