Three Police Officers Dismissed In Kwara Following Poly Student Murder
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the dismissal of three officers linked to the murder of Abdulqoyyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student from the state Polytechnic in Ilorin. They are expected to be arraigned in court shortly.

Ishola, an ND student in electronic engineering, was tragically killed on September 4, 2024, at GRA in Ilorin while preparing for his sign-out ceremony. The Students Union Government and the institution’s management have both called for justice regarding his death.

In a statement released by DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, spokesperson for the police command, it was revealed that following a thorough investigation and internal disciplinary trial, the three officers—Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip—were found guilty of dereliction of duty, corrupt practices, and unlawful exercise of authority. Their dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force is effective from October 4, 2024.

The statement emphasized the commitment of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to justice and accountability within the police force. “We are determined to ensure that officers conduct themselves with integrity, and any breach of ethical standards, especially in cases resulting in loss of life, will be met with strict consequences,” the statement read.

The Kwara State Police Command, under Commissioner Victor Olaiya, extended its condolences to Ishola’s family, friends, and colleagues, expressing solidarity during this challenging time. The Command urged the public to exercise patience and trust in the legal process, reaffirming its dedication to maintaining law and order in Kwara State.
