New Federal Institutions: Senate Passes Bill For Their EstablishmentThe Nigerian Senate passed a bill on Tuesday to establish three federal institutions in Edo, Delta, and Imo States. The newly established institutions are:

1.Federal University of Sports Afuze, Edo State (Establishment) Bill, 2024

2.Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Otu-Jeremi, Delta State (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (HB. 221)

3.Federal College of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences, Isiala Mbano, Imo State (Establishment) Bill, 2024

Additionally, the Senate has called on the Libyan government to apologize to Nigeria for the mistreatment of the national football team, the Super Eagles, during their arrival for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

The Senate condemned the actions of Libyan officials, describing them as disgraceful and a clear violation of human dignity, and called for a thorough investigation into the incident. This resolution followed a point of order raised by Senator Sumaila Kawu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, who cited Order 42 of the Senate Standing Rules for a personal explanation.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin condemned the treatment of the Super Eagles, labeling it unacceptable and contrary to the principles of sports, which should promote unity and camaraderie among nations.
