Amaechi Reflects On Tensions With Ambode Over Lagos Metro Line ProjectFormer Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi recounted his near frustration with former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode regarding the blue line metro project. He noted that the federal government had permitted Lagos to utilize the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) tracks for the red line, but felt Ambode was not fully committed to the project. Amaechi praised the current administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for revitalizing and completing these initiatives.

“I had nearly lost my patience when Ambode seemed to abandon the blue line project,” he said. “I reached out to Ambode, the Vice-President, and even reported to the President until the new governor took over. I warned that we were close to shutting down the line. I urged him to use the federal corridor instead of building a new track. I advised him to buy coaches and operate on our existing tracks, as there was insufficient train movement.
