Nigeria Braces For Sunny Days And Dusty Skies As NiMet Predicts Hazy Weather

Published

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted sunny and hazy weather from Thursday to Saturday across the country. In its weather outlook released on Wednesday, NiMet predicted moderate dust haze for parts of Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba states, with visibility ranging from 2km to 5km.

The agency anticipates moderate dust haze with local visibility of 2km to 5km across northern regions, while the North Central region is expected to experience similar conditions. The southern states will see sunny and hazy weather, with occasional clouds along the coast in the morning, followed by local thunderstorms and moderate rain in the afternoon/evening over states like Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet warns that on Friday, the northern region will face moderate dust haze with visibility dropping to 1km to 3km, while the southern inland will remain sunny and hazy with coastal areas experiencing patchy clouds. Local thunderstorms with moderate rain are predicted for several southern states, including Abia, Anambra, and Edo.

By Saturday, the northern region will again experience moderate dust haze with visibility between 2km to 5km. The southern region will continue to see sunny and hazy conditions inland, with coastal areas seeing cloudy patches.

The agency has advised the public to take precautions against suspended dust particles, particularly those with respiratory issues such as asthma. Strong winds may precede thunderstorms in some areas, and NiMet has urged airline operators to consult specific weather reports for safe flight planning.
