NAF Recovers Cockpit Voice Recorder From Crashed ATR-42 Aircraft In Ondo
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder from its ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as recovery operations continue at the accident site.
The Air Force disclosed that technical teams from the NAF and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) had examined the recovered recorder and confirmed that it remained intact.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, announced the development in a statement issued on Friday.
Ejodame also revealed that part of the aircraft’s Flight Data Recorder, commonly referred to as the black box, had been recovered, while search teams were still working to locate the remaining section.
He added that additional wreckage, engine components and human remains had also been retrieved from the crash site.
The spokesman explained that recovery efforts were continuing despite the difficult swampy terrain, with technical teams carefully searching for outstanding aircraft components needed for further examination.
He noted that the recovery operation also involved the careful handling of human remains, with the Directorate of Identification and Classification responsible for carrying out the necessary identification procedures.
Ejodame further stated that the Air Force had maintained communication with the families of those affected by the crash and was engaging relevant authorities over environmental concerns raised by the host community.
He appealed to members of the public to remain patient, explaining that the recovery and investigation processes required time, careful coordination and technical expertise.
According to the NAF spokesman, the investigation is aimed not only at determining the circumstances surrounding the crash but also at identifying lessons that could improve flight safety, strengthen military air operations and protect the lives of personnel and members of the public.
The Air Force assured Nigerians that it would continue to provide verified updates as recovery operations and investigations progress.
