The talented youngster, born to a Nigerian father and raised in England, had the option to represent either country. After a visit to Nigeria in March this year, he was inspired by what he experienced during his trip.

“I’ve received recognition in Nigerian newspapers, which has been nice to see,” Ogunleye shared in an interview with Bournemouth’s official website.

According to reports from England, the versatile midfielder has now opted to play for Nigeria instead of England. This decision puts him in line to represent Nigeria at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Ogunleye’s choice comes after Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured qualification for the tournament by winning the WAFU B U-20 Championship in Togo last month.

Currently in the first year of a two-year scholarship with Bournemouth, Ogunleye has been with the club since he was 11 and has been a regular for their U-20 side this season.
