This statement follows President Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which saw the dismissal of six ministers, the appointment of seven new ones, and portfolio changes for 10 other ministers.
In an interview with Tribune, Bewaji described the reshuffle as long overdue, adding that there are still many “dead woods” within the administration who need to be removed.
He stressed the need for decisive action to ensure only capable individuals hold key government positions.
“A cabinet reshuffle was long overdue, but the one we’ve seen so far is just the beginning. There are still many underperforming individuals in the administration who must be shown the door,” Bewaji said.
When asked to assess the administration’s policies and their impact, Bewaji explained that the current government’s reforms would take time to bear fruit due to the systemic financial failures inherited from previous administrations.
He highlighted how the government under former President Goodluck Jonathan mismanaged resources, including the depletion of the excess crude account and foreign reserves, despite high oil prices and production levels during his tenure. Bewaji added that had reforms been initiated earlier, Nigeria might not be in its current predicament.
