Obasa clarified that his main priority is to advance the All Progressives Congress (APC) through the Mandate Group, with his gubernatorial ambitions being secondary. He made the remarks following the presentation of the ₦3 trillion 2025 budget proposal by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In his statement, Obasa said, “I want to take this opportunity to remind us of the need to build and sustain our party, the APC, particularly as we look toward 2027. We must continue mobilizing people, as I do regularly. To those who have sought to misinterpret or distort our mission, let me make it clear—our goal is to strengthen the party under the Mandate platform.”

He added, “Becoming governor is secondary to me, and I have not seriously considered it. However, that doesn’t mean I lack the experience or youth to run for the office. In fact, those who have held the position before me are not necessarily better qualified.”

His comments come amidst speculations about Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, potentially running for governor in 2027.
