Mother Arrested For Allegedly Selling 2-Year-Old Son, Falsifying Kidnap Report To PoliceA 32-year-old South African woman, Keneiwe Portia Shabala, has been arrested on charges of selling her two-year-old son, Kutlwano.

Shabala appeared before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court in Gauteng on Monday, November 25, 2024, facing charges of human trafficking, conspiracy to commit robbery, and providing a false statement to the police.

The charges stem from an incident on November 10, 2024, when Shabala allegedly sold her young son to unidentified individuals. Three days later, on November 13, 2024, she reported to the police that her child had been kidnapped by unknown men in a vehicle.

However, during the investigation, police uncovered that the kidnapping claim was fabricated. Shabala later admitted to inventing the story. She was arrested on November 19, 2024, and has remained in custody since then.

As of now, the whereabouts of the child are still unknown, and efforts to locate him continue.

The case has been adjourned to November 29, 2024, when a bail application may be heard, with the State signaling its intention to oppose her release on bail.
