Reacting to the restart of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery, Obi commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for successfully revitalizing the aging facility. However, he emphasized that Nigerians are now looking for tangible benefits, particularly in terms of lower fuel prices and broader economic improvements.

In a post on his X handle, Obi stated, “I congratulate the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for fulfilling the long-overdue promise of revamping the Port Harcourt refinery. The refinery, which now has a production capacity of 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day, is expected to see approximately 200 trucks loading products daily.”

He continued, “While this is a positive development, Nigerians are eager to see the direct impact on fuel prices and the national economy. The news of the Kaduna refinery’s revival is also encouraging, as it holds the potential to boost productivity, improve transportation, and ease the economic strain on citizens.”

Obi stressed, however, that for these efforts to truly benefit the country, transparency must be prioritized. “It is essential that the NNPC operates with full transparency,” he said. “Nigerians deserve to know how the nation’s oil resources are being managed. The increased refining capacity must lead to real benefits for the people, helping to drive long-term development across the country.
