Firstly, it is not out of place for family members of notable politicians to aspire to political positions. Global research reveals active political participation of family members of The Bush, Clinton, Kennedy, etc, in active politics, with some attaining the highest level of political aspiration in their country. Family members should have a right to aspire to political office irrespective of the political attainment of the family forerunner.
Secondly, the appointment is a testament of Senator Okpebholo’s promise to empower the youth irrespective of their social inclinations. As someone who has attained political significance despite his social and political trajectory, he is less concerned about who gets an appointment provided the individual has the prerequisite abilities to perform such a task. So rather than castigate, Senator Okpebholo deserves commendation for recognizing Dr. Cyril’s potential and appointing him as Commissioner for Health. This decision demonstrates the senator’s dedication to merit-based appointments and youth empowerment, a move that showcases the senator’s commitment to fostering a new generation of leaders.
Thirdly, as the dark horse of the race leading to his eventual victory at the polls in September 2024, Senator Monday Okpebholo believes that Dr. Cyril’s appointment will introduce a breath of fresh air laced with potential value contribution carrying a potential to positively impact Edo State’s healthcare system. His expertise, combined with his commitment to public service, positions him to drive meaningful reforms and improvement and, therefore, should be given a chance.
Fourthly, while it is not a crime to be born with a tiered social and economic class, conversely, it should not be a crime to be born into a political class with significant influence. This is where the critics can not but agree that as a medical doctor, with over 15 years of experience, trained amongst the best individuals and facilities across the globe, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomole comes with sufficient academic records, extensive work experience, professional achievement, demonstrated commitment to public service, and an uncommon ability to balance personal and professional life effectively, which is essential for effective leadership.
Finally, it is on this note that Senator Okpebholo, the executive governor of Edo state, should be encouraged to continue promoting deserving individuals, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, background, or connections.
