The announcement was made via the WTO’s X handle on Friday, confirming that Okonjo-Iweala, the current Director-General, will continue in the role for another four years.
The statement read: “The General Council has appointed Director-General @NOIweala for a second term, effective 1 September 2025. More details to follow.”
Earlier this year, as her first term neared its end, the WTO confirmed that Okonjo-Iweala was the sole candidate for reappointment. In a statement on September 16, Okonjo-Iweala had expressed her willingness to serve a second term.
