Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer (CCCO) of NNPCL, assured the public that the refinery is producing high-quality petroleum products in line with international standards. In a statement shared on his X handle on Friday, Soneye emphasized that, following the ceremonial truck load-out event, routine operations at the refinery have been running smoothly with daily truck loadings to ensure a consistent and reliable supply chain.
“The Port Harcourt Refinery operates in strict compliance with global best practices, ensuring the production of top-quality petroleum products. After the ceremonial truck load-out, routine operations have progressed without issues,” Soneye stated.
He also urged Nigerians to disregard any misinformation regarding the refinery’s operations. “We encourage the public to ignore misleading reports from certain media outlets and individuals spreading falsehoods. The Port Harcourt Refinery is committed to transparency, excellence, and meeting Nigeria’s energy demands,” he added.
This comes after a statement from the refinery’s host community, Alesa Stakeholders, which claimed that the refinery was not yet fully operational. According to Timothy Mbere, Secretary of Alesa Stakeholders, the products being loaded were not freshly produced by the refinery but were instead old stock from storage. He also clarified that while some units of the refinery are functional, it was not the entire facility that was operational as suggested in the media.
NNPCL, however, dismissed these claims and reaffirmed its commitment to the refinery’s ongoing efforts to contribute to Nigeria’s energy security.
