Governor Sanwo-Olu Issues Warning To Lagos Landlords Over Rent IncreasesGovernor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on landlords and property owners in Lagos State to avoid raising rents and property values in light of recent infrastructural advancements. His plea followed the inauguration of major road projects in the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area.
During the launch of the Abiola-Ajayi-Ogba and Obawole-Iju-Ishaga road projects on Monday, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the purpose of these developments was to ease the challenges faced by residents, not to burden them further. The newly inaugurated 643-meter road, which includes a bridge and slip roads, provides vital connectivity to areas that were previously served by temporary wooden bridges requiring a crossing fee.
“I appeal to landlords and landowners: do not increase your rents and property prices. The essence of the infrastructure we’ve built is to bring relief to the people and not burden residents,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The Governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing long-standing issues such as flooding and transportation. “These projects symbolize our dedication to improving the daily lives of Lagosians,” he added.
Tinubu Assures Oba of Lagos on Coastal Highway Project Amid Land Concerns
Meanwhile, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, shared details of a conversation between President Bola Tinubu and the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, regarding the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project. The Oba had raised concerns about the project affecting his land, but Tinubu reassured him that the project was for national development.
Umahi revealed that those complaining about the project encroaching on their properties are not indigenes of Lagos. He also emphasized that the land in question was largely undeveloped. “Even the Oba of Lagos’ land is affected. He spoke to the President, who assured him that it is for development,” Umahi stated.
He further clarified that the criticisms of the project were largely political and asserted his readiness to continue with the construction. “I’m a man of courage, and nothing will stop the project,” Umahi added.
The Minister also suggested that the critics of the project were envious of Tinubu’s performance, emphasizing that the President’s decisions were in the best interests of the country.
