Dele Farotimi: Peter Obi Seeks Afe Babalola’s Intervention For Controversial Activist
Dele Farotimi: Peter Obi Seeks Afe Babalola’s Intervention For Controversial ActivistFormer presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, paid a visit to renowned Nigerian legal figure, Afe Babalola, SAN, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Monday. During the visit, Obi appealed to Babalola to consider the plight of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, who has been incarcerated at the Ekiti prison.
Babalola has faced significant criticism following his petition to the police for Farotimi’s arrest. On Monday, however, a court granted Farotimi bail in the sum of N50 million, with a surety of equal value.
Obi’s visit was aimed at mediating between the two prominent legal figures. Social activist Moses Paul shared images of the visit on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Today, Mr. @PeterObi traveled from Lagos to Ekiti State, dedicating the entire day to meaningful engagements. He visited Aare Afe Babalola at his office within Afe Babalola University, where they discussed critical issues, including the situation of activist and lawyer @DeleFarotimi.”
After the meeting with Babalola, Obi proceeded to the prison where Farotimi is being held, holding a private meeting with him. The purpose of the visit was to express solidarity and engage in a candid conversation about addressing the ongoing challenges.
