Taking to social media, Melaye condemned the development, questioning the church’s leadership structure, particularly regarding the retirement of Bishop Abioye, a senior pastor who has been a prominent figure in the church.

Melaye raised concerns over why Bishop David Oyedepo, who is older than Abioye, continues to lead the church while Abioye, a younger pastor, has been retired. In a tweet, he stated, “I did not attend Shiloh 2024. Shiloh without Bishop Abioye is somehow. I can’t understand why Bishop Oyedepo, who is older, is not retired, and it is Bishop Abioye, who is younger, that should be forcefully retired.”

The former senator further criticized the decision, suggesting that it was not a divine move but a human-made decision. “God did not retire Abioye, only Oyedepo did. Let’s watch,” Melaye added in an X post (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, drawing attention to what he perceived as an unjust leadership decision.

Shiloh 2024, which took place from December 10 to 15, brought together members of the Winners family worldwide. However, the absence of Bishop Abioye raised questions among some church members and observers.

In response to the criticisms, Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church, urged critics to refrain from questioning the church’s internal decisions, including the retirement of pastors. The church’s leadership has not officially addressed the details behind Abioye’s retirement, leaving room for ongoing discussions on the matter.
