Tinubu Announces New Terms And Conditions For Military Service In NigeriaPresident Bola Tinubu has approved a new Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service (HTACOS) for personnel in the Nigerian Military, including officers, soldiers, airmen, and ratings. This approval was announced during a National Defense Council meeting on Monday, which President Tinubu chaired.

Key attendees at the meeting included the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru; the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu; and the nation’s service chiefs.

The newly approved HTACOS is aimed at enhancing the welfare of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel at all levels. The updated terms are designed to address long-standing issues within the military by revising policies for both officers and enlisted personnel.

During the meeting, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the armed forces in fulfilling their constitutional duties. The Ministry of Defence is expected to release detailed information on the new terms in the coming days.

It’s worth noting that the previous HTACOS, signed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017, was intended to be reviewed every five years.

In another development, Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike on Public Communications, has blamed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Olayinka suggested that Atiku has consistently prioritized his personal interests over the party’s welfare, contributing to the internal discord within the PDP. In an interview with Punch on Monday, he argued that Atiku’s actions, including his role in the party’s challenges, were partly responsible for the PDP’s loss of the 2015 presidential election.

He further urged Atiku to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race for the good of the PDP, suggesting that his continued ambition could ease the current tensions within the party. Olayinka emphasized that Atiku is not the only prominent figure in the PDP and that the party’s future should not revolve solely around him.
