Abuja At Risk Of Total Blackout As Vandals Target Critical Shiroro-Katampe Power Line
Several areas within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have been hit by power outages following the recent sabotage of the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line by vandals.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released Thursday evening, Ndidi Mbah, spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), confirmed that the incident took place at around 11:43 PM on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, causing a disruption in the power supply from the transmission line to the national grid.
Mbah further explained that a TCN patrol team dispatched to investigate the issue discovered that vandals had stolen a section of the conductor between towers T216 and T218. A maintenance crew has already been deployed to the site to repair the damage, with the restoration of the bulk power supply expected soon, although no specific timeline was provided.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has also issued two separate notices regarding the outage, which is affecting several locations across the capital, including the CBN Headquarters, Ecumenical Centre, Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture, New Chelsea Hotel, Army War College, Reiz Continental Hotel, NBS, Lozumba Complex, UTC, Gidan Isah, Area 10, and surrounding neighborhoods. The outage is also impacting areas like Katsina-Ala, Kila Close, Rudolf Close, La Street, Rima Street, Ekororo Street, Sand Link Street, Olufemi Street, Laih Street, and adjacent regions.
