Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, revealed this on Monday while parading Efe alongside four other suspects linked to various killings.
“This briefing is a particularly painful one, involving the murder of Paulinus Okon by his close friend, Efe Onoetiyi,” Olufemi stated.
According to the Commissioner, Paulinus was reported missing on September 8, 2024, by his brother after he went out with Efe. Although Efe initially denied any knowledge of Paulinus’s disappearance, he visited the victim’s family to inquire about him, raising suspicion.
When confronted, Efe denied that Paulinus had been with him. Later, he approached the family, demanding N500,000, claiming it was needed to pay a herbalist who could locate Paulinus.
Subsequently, Efe informed the family that Paulinus had been kidnapped and managed to collect a ransom of approximately N20,715,000 from the victim’s brother, claiming he was in communication with the alleged kidnappers.
When suspicions grew, Efe was arrested, and the case was handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba for further investigation.
