The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday at the palace located on Plot 306, New Layout, Lokoja. The incident disrupted plans for the second edition of the “Lokoja ‘24 Nupe Cultural Fiesta,” an end-of-year event organized by the Nupe natives of Lokoja Development Union, which was scheduled for the same day.

Speaking to our correspondent during a visit to the scene on Monday, the monarch narrated his ordeal: “Around 1 a.m., I heard a loud bang on my door and woke up to check through the window, wondering what was happening. Then, I saw my car on fire, set ablaze by attackers.

“Realizing it was an attack on the palace, I couldn’t go out the front door for fear of being attacked. I managed to exit through the back door and climbed the fence to save my life. When I got to the road, I saw my neighbors desperately trying to extinguish the fire, but unfortunately, my car and other property were completely destroyed.”

The Etsu Lokoja revealed that the event’s planning committee had met until 11:30 p.m. on Friday, only for the attack to occur hours later, forcing the cancellation of the cultural fiesta. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate, particularly as Nupe natives from neighboring states had already begun arriving for the event.
