A Nigerian woman, Chukwudi Mmesoma, has urged single mothers facing financial hardship without support from their children’s fathers to take advantage of the food, money, and gifts distributed to widows during the holiday season.

Mmesoma continued, “If you’re a single mother struggling to feed your children and you’re dealing with a deadbeat father, go out and collect the items being given to widows. You’re in a similar position, and I see every single mother with an absent father as a widow.”

She went on to argue, “Why let your children starve when you have the chance to get help? The person who should be providing for your children is acting as if he’s dead, so why worry about society’s judgment?”

“If he’s playing dead, then you should act like he’s dead too,” she concluded, acknowledging that her views might stir some criticism but standing firm in her perspective.
