I Am Not Behind Media Attacks On Alia – George Akume Revived

Published

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has rejected allegations accusing him of orchestrating media attacks on Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia.

On Sunday, the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum accused Akume of undermining Alia’s leadership, warning that the party could not afford to lose Benue State. The forum urged Akume to stop using proxies to launch attacks on Governor Alia, cautioning that such actions could jeopardize the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections.

In a statement signed by the forum’s chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, the group condemned the ongoing media attacks against Governor Alia, which they claimed were being carried out through anonymous groups and proxies. They expressed concern that these attacks aimed to destabilize the APC in Benue State and the North-Central region as a whole. The forum further warned that Akume’s actions could push Governor Alia to follow the same path as his predecessor, Samuel Ortom, who defected from the APC to the PDP.

In response, Akume’s spokesperson, Terrence Kuanum, dismissed the forum’s accusations as baseless, accusing them of attempting to tarnish the SGF’s reputation. “There is no truth in the claim that the SGF is behind the media attacks on Governor Alia,” Kuanum stated.

He continued, “The group led by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga revealed its true intentions when it threatened to mobilize against the SGF and call for his removal from office. Contrary to their allegations, the SGF has consistently provided leadership and direction for both Benue State and the North-Central chapter of the party.”

Kuanum emphasized that Akume remains focused on his duties and continues to provide strong leadership for the APC, dismissing the accusations as a mere distraction.
