Speaking with The PUNCH, the oil dealers expressed hopes for the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol) from the recently rehabilitated refinery.

The WRPC, operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), resumed operations on December 30, 2024, following an announcement by Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, during a visit to the facility.

During a visit to the refinery on Friday, Harry Okenini, Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), confirmed that while the plant is operational, it has not yet reached full capacity.

Okenini stated that while marketers are currently lifting diesel and kerosene, they are still awaiting the production of petrol. “At the moment, there is no petrol production, so we are not loading PMS. However, the plant is operational, though not at full capacity. IPMAN, Warri Depot Unit, is waiting for the production of PMS so we can begin loading,” he explained.

“For now, only Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and Dual Purpose Kerosene are being produced and loaded for distribution. We expect cooking gas, PMS, and other products to start production by February. Currently, the retail unit is only loading AGO and DPK,” he added.

Israel Omokere, the National Chairman of the Surface Tank and Kerosene Peddlers branch of NUPENG, also confirmed that the refinery is operational, saying, “We are loading kerosene and AGO for now. We are hopeful that PMS will come online soon.”

Kingsley Erituoyo, the Delta State Chairman of the Surface Tank and Kerosene Peddlers branch of NUPENG, also commented on the refinery’s progress.
