Governor Chukwuma Soludo, during the inauguration of the vigilante group, tasked them with dismantling the hideouts of unknown gunmen and kidnappers in the state.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, Governor Soludo stated that Agunechemba would work alongside other security agencies to address the state’s increasing insecurity challenges.
While commending the Governor for establishing the vigilante group, Ejiofor cautioned against using the group to exert political pressure on opposition politicians ahead of the November gubernatorial election in the state.
He said, “Having carefully examined the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, which establishes the ‘Agunechemba’ security outfit, I believe in the wisdom of the Igbo adage, ‘Osita di mma odibara gboo,’ meaning ‘it is still early to make things right and achieve better results.’ This highlights the opportunity to build a strong foundation for the outfit’s success.
“As the November 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election draws near, I urge the Governor and his administration to ensure that Agunechemba remains free from political influence. It must not become a tool for oppression, intimidation, or harassment by political predators. Its primary purpose – ensuring the security and welfare of the people – should be the focus above all else.
“Security is a collective responsibility. Every citizen has a role in restoring Anambra State to its former glory. Together, we can create a safer and more prosperous homeland.”
