A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, setting the sum at ₦10 million with one surety of equal standing.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Presiding over the case, Justice Musa Liman specified that the surety must be a reputable individual owning landed property of equal value. Additionally, the surety must provide a passport photograph to the court registrar.
As part of the bail conditions, Sowore is required to surrender his international passport to the court and fulfill all requirements within 24 hours to avoid being remanded in police custody.
The bail decision follows Sowore’s arraignment on 17 counts of cybercrime charges filed by the Nigerian Police. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, which are linked to an alleged tweet where he referred to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as the “illegal IGP.”
The police allege that the statement was false and aimed at inciting public disorder.
Sowore’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, appealed for lenient bail terms, emphasizing that his client posed no flight risk and had consistently attended court proceedings. However, the prosecution counsel, Udey Jonathan, urged the court to impose strict conditions to ensure Sowore’s compliance throughout the trial.
