In an opinion piece titled “El-Rufai: ‘Fura’ Matter for Morality,” Olowofela raised questions about the circumstances behind El-Rufai’s failed ministerial confirmation. He attributed the failure to what he described as “demons” in Aso Rock, whom he believes were manipulating the process.
Olowofela further accused these so-called demons of also influencing former President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to support President Bola Tinubu during the lead-up to the 2023 elections.
He reflected on El-Rufai’s political involvement, particularly his backing of Tinubu’s candidacy. Olowofela explained that, ahead of the 2023 elections, there was division among power brokers within Aso Rock regarding who should succeed Buhari. However, El-Rufai remained steadfast in his support for Tinubu and advocated for a power shift to the South, despite opposition from some northern political forces.
“El-Rufai stood firm on the need for power shift and stuck with Tinubu like a Siamese twin,” Olowofela wrote.
He compared El-Rufai’s situation to Tinubu’s struggles during Buhari’s presidency, suggesting that hidden forces, possibly “demons in Aso Rock,” were working against key political figures involved in leadership transitions.
Recalling a statement by journalist Reuben Abati, who had mentioned “demons in Aso Rock,” Olowofela questioned if such forces were influencing El-Rufai’s current predicament. He posed, “If not for demons in Aso Rock, how could Buhari have forgotten Tinubu’s role in his emergence as the APC candidate years ago?”
Concluding, Olowofela asked, “Who will exorcise the demons in Aso Rock?”
