Adeyanju made this statement in response to the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, who recently called for the release of TikTok content creator Olumide Ogunsanwo, popularly known as SeaKing.
SeaKing had criticized Adeboye over his directive for RCCG members to embark on a 100-day fast. In a viral TikTok video, he referred to Adeboye as “very stupid and foolish” for imposing such a demanding fast on his congregation.
Following his comments, SeaKing was arrested by Nigeria Police operatives in Lagos and transferred to the Federal Investigation Department (FID) in Abuja under DIG Dasuki Galandanchi, on allegations of cyberbullying.
Adeyanju Praises Adeboye for Advocating SeaKing’s Release
Reacting to the situation, Adeyanju commended Adeboye for condemning the arrest and calling for SeaKing’s immediate release.
In a Facebook post, Adeyanju wrote:
“Papa Adeboye’s video condemning the arrest of @seaking303 and demanding his release is exactly what is expected from a true man of God.”
He continued, “This is why I will always respect Bishop Oyedepo and Papa Adeboye. Any pastor who arrests or imprisons someone for criticizing or insulting them is a fake pastor.”
“Even Jesus Didn’t Arrest His Critics” – Adeyanju
Adeyanju further questioned the integrity of pastors who resort to law enforcement to silence dissent. “Why didn’t Jesus arrest those who insulted and criticized Him? Why didn’t Jesus use the police to arrest His critics? Fake pastors!” he exclaimed.
Highlighting his personal experiences, Adeyanju added, “People insult and defame me daily, along with my spiritual leaders, but I have never supported anyone arresting them. I would rather defend my spiritual leader or suggest legal action for defamation, but arresting someone for criticism is the ultimate sign of wickedness and lack of faith.”
Adeyanju’s comments have sparked widespread discussions on the role of religious leaders in handling public criticism.
